Jam Recipes

These are some of our favorite classic jam recipes. We also have recipes listed by specific fruits to make hunting for recipes faster.

Classic Grandma's Strawberry Jam Recipe

Wash and hull berries

Measure berries, and allow 3 cups of sugar for every quart.

Mash fruit as it heats, bring to boiling, add sugar, and boil until thick.

Pour into sterilized glass jam jars, seal with paraffin or lids.

Traditional Red Raspberry Jam Recipe

Measure raspberries after washing and draining; measuring 4 cups.

To the 4 cups sugar add 1 cup boiling water and cook  until syrup spins a thread (234 degrees).

Slowly drop in berries.

Bring to rolling boil, stirring gently. Mixture may seem sugary at first, but this disappears.

Boil vigorously 1 minute. Let mixture stand a few minutes to prevent fruit from floating.

Pour into sterilized jam jars and seal.

Blackberry Jam Recipe

6 cups blackberries

1/2 cup water

6 cups sugar

Juice of 2 oranges

Juice 1 lemon

Grated Rind of 1 orange

Cook berries with water until soft.

Rub through sieve and add sugar, fruit juice, and grated rind.

Boil until thick. Pour into sterilized jam jars and seal.

 

Plum Jam

Wash 3 pints of plums and remove all seeds.

Add 4 cups of sugar and cook until thick and clear.

Pour into sterilized jam jars and seal.

Raw Plum Jam Recipe

Select good, sweet homegrown plums or Italian plums.

Wash, remove pits, force through food chopper using medium blade.

Add 1 cup sugar to each cup of pulp.

Mix and let stand overnight.

In the morning, pour into sterilized jam jars and seal.

Old Fashioned Pinecot Jam Recipe

1 pound dried apricots

2 cans broken sliced pineapple

Sugar

Wash apricots and cut into pieces.

Soak overnight in the juice drained from the pineapple.

In the morning, cut pineapple into chunks and mix with apricots.

Measure into sauce pay and add 1/2 cup sugar for every cup of fruit and juice.

Cook over low heat until thick and transparent.

Pour into sterilized jam jars and seal.
